About Roaming Boston

Roaming Boston is a local’s guide to the city—for both tourists and residents. My name is Lily, and I Iived in Boston on and off for around 3 years, and I’ve been visiting the city for over 9 years. My goal is to document my Boston experiences to help you have a better trip, or find something new and interesting to do.

My Boston Story

I first visited Boston in 2014, right before starting college in Western Mass. I visited countless more times over my undergrad degree, as the city was only 2 hours away.

In 2018, I lived in Somerville for 3 months to do an internship in Cambridge. Sullivan Square in Somerville may not be the most aesthetic Greater Boston neighborhood, but it’s super efficient to get into the city from there, and Assembly Square is a short walk away (I need my Trader Joe’s runs).

From 2019-2021, I lived in Brookline, and it remains one of my favorite places to live and be, despite having traveled around the world. The area is quiet and safe, the houses are beautiful, there are plenty of parks, and of course, there’s Trader Joe’s haha.

Then, in 2021-2022, I spent a 4 months in Medford, which was probably my least favorite place I lived in Greater Boston, as parts of it are a food desert, and it wasn’t close to the T (though the new Green Line extension certainly helps!).

While I’m not currently based in Boston—I have a more nomadic lifestyle—the city has a special place in my heart, and I hope to live there again one day. I visit often and have been there twice in 2023.

What to Expect from Roaming Boston

  • While this will be a informational site, I will still be writing from my own perspective. I do not use AI on this website. Everything is from my lived experience, or based on extensive research if I haven’t yet had a chance to go a specific place.
  • You can expect to see less touristy content (nothing wrong with that though!) and more on topics I personally love: active adventures, aesthetic places, plant-based food, and community initiatives.
  • I love taking photos and most of the photography on this site is original. Sometimes I use stock photos from Depositphotos when I don’t have my own.
  • I try to keep posts as up-to-date as possible, refreshing lists with new options and adding better images.

If that sounds good to you, I hope you’ll stick around! Please feel free to email me at any point or leave content suggestions in the comments.
